C — Check

E — Eliminate

Reject answers in layers: wrong count first, then wrong position, orientation, fill and secondary relationships. This is faster than reconstructing every option mentally.

  2. The top cell supplies the number of vertical lines in the result cell.
  3. The middle cell supplies the number of lines that become horizontal after a 90-degree rotation.
  4. In column three, the bottom result contains two vertical and three horizontal lines.
  5. The top-right cell already supplies the two vertical lines, so the missing middle-right cell must supply three lines before rotation.

Therefore the missing symbol is three vertical lines: option A. Option C has the correct count but ignores the required rotation of the middle-row input.

  2. Each inner triangle contains the other three symbols, excluding the symbol in its corresponding outside corner.
  3. Normalise the reading direction: read each inner list from the outside midpoint toward the centre.
  4. The visible lists then progress cyclically: XOZ → OZ− → Z−X → −XO.
  5. For the missing upper-right triangle, the outside-to-centre direction runs from right to left. Therefore the required order −XO appears visually from left to right as OX−.

Option D is the only response that preserves both the cyclic order and the required spatial reading direction.

Challenge 3 • Geometry and fill

  2. The first grey arrow points to 3 o’clock and the centre is a triangle: three sides.
  3. The second points to 6 and the centre is a hexagon; the third points to 4 and the centre is a quadrilateral.
  4. The final grey arrow points to 5, so the missing centre must be a pentagon.
  5. Odd-sided polygons in the sequence are filled, while even-sided polygons are outline shapes.

Five sides plus the odd-sided fill rule gives a filled pentagon: option D. The outline pentagon follows the side-count code but fails the fill rule.

Challenge 4 • Alternating subsequences

  1. Split the sequence into odd positions 1–3–5 and even positions 2–4.
  2. The even-position panels form their own smaller sequence and therefore should not determine panel 5.
  3. In the odd subsequence, the number of black dots moves from two to four and returns to two.
  4. The grey centre point remains present, and the odd-position arrow continues toward the lower-right.
  5. The enclosing frame must also continue the odd-position progression.

Only option E satisfies the complete odd-position combination. Other choices copy one visible feature but fail the dot count, direction or enclosing frame.

A third-party raw-score table cannot predict an official result without the exact assessment, adaptive model, comparison group and employer decision rule.

Avoid invented industry cut-offs. Statements such as “consulting always requires the 90th percentile” are not universal SHL rules and should not be presented as facts without employer-specific evidence.

Window Switching, Screenshots and Assessment Security

SHL Support documents that some assessments may display an “Illegal window switch detected” warning and prohibit opening another browser, switching away from the test, minimising the window or taking screenshots. Repeated prohibited actions can result in the assessment being locked.
