SHL Assessment Adjustments: Our Checklist and 6 Learning Checks

An assessment should let you demonstrate your reasoning without avoidable uncertainty about the setup. If you may need an adjustment, it helps to ask early and know who can confirm it. ReasoningCampus offers SHL preparation and practical familiarisation guidance; this lesson helps you organise requests and checks while keeping approval with the recruiting organisation.

An adjustment request, an approved arrangement and a configured assessment are different stages. Acknowledging your email does not necessarily mean extra time is active. We explain how to record what has been requested, clarify what has been confirmed and check the relevant device or access features before starting the live assessment.

SHL assessment adjustments: separate the request from the setup

SHL’s candidate guidance directs additional-time approval questions to the company requesting the assessment. The checklist below helps you prepare that conversation; it does not decide eligibility or replace the organisation’s process.

Practical issues to clarify before test day
IssueQuestion to askConfirmation to keep
Time arrangementWhich timed components does it apply to?The approved arrangement and any setup instructions.
Display or assistive technologyCan I check my actual assessment and device combination?Compatibility guidance and the result of the check.
Supporting informationWhat is required and which secure route should I use?The organisation’s instructions, not a public posting.
DeadlineWhat should I do if confirmation is still pending?Any explicit revised deadline or direction.
Technical difficultyWho should receive the specific error and setup details? The support reference and instructions to follow.

When reporting a problem, be specific: which page or question type, which device and browser, what you expected and what happened. Keep sensitive personal documents out of the practice checklist. Its purpose is to track the process, not to collect health records.

SHL assessment adjustments: our preparation-readiness checklist

Our role here is educational preparation. We help you separate three questions: what arrangement you need to request, who can confirm it and how that confirmed arrangement affects your practice. Keep the approval message, assessment name and deadline together. An acknowledgement of a request is not evidence that a setting has been implemented.

SHL’s candidate support guidance says that test-time extensions require approval from the company requesting the assessment and directs candidates to their recruiter. Evidence may be requested through that process. SHL separately states that the requesting company controls assessment deadlines and extensions.

Describe the barrier in practical terms

Explain what you need to access or complete: reading the displayed information, using the response controls, hearing audio where relevant, or completing a timed task under the requested arrangement. Ask what information the organisation needs and how to provide it securely. You do not need to place medical documents or confidential invitation links in a public comment or this page’s tool.

Platform support is not individual approval

SHL describes TalentCentral support for common assistive technologies, alternative displays and keyboard navigation. That platform-level guidance does not confirm that a particular assessment, device and arrangement will work together, or that a candidate has been granted extra time. Ask about the specific combination you will use.

This page deliberately does not promise a standard extra-time percentage or worldwide legal entitlement. The actual arrangement must be confirmed through the organisation’s process and the instructions for your assessment.

Adjustment request: separate approval from implementation

Record “requested”, “approved” and “visible in the assigned assessment” as different states. If an approved arrangement is missing, ask the responsible organisation how to proceed before starting the affected timed task. The learning checklist below helps you notice missing confirmations; it does not approve an arrangement or inspect your actual assessment settings.

A practical request and confirmation sequence

Step 1: identify the exact assessment and deadline

Use the assessment title from your invitation. If several tasks are listed, name each one affected. Record the deadline with the stated time zone; “Friday evening” may be ambiguous across countries. If you cannot identify the task, use our invitation guide.

Step 2: request guidance before starting the affected timed task

Contact the recruiting organisation as early as practical. Ask for its adjustment process and whether the deadline needs to change while the request is considered. Do not assume that sending a message pauses a deadline or changes the assessment automatically.

Step 3: obtain a specific confirmation

A useful confirmation identifies the task covered, the approved arrangement, whether it has been applied to the assigned assessment and any instructions you must follow. “Your request has been received” is an acknowledgement, not necessarily approval or implementation.

Step 4: check the permitted setup

Use the system check or familiarisation activity supplied in the invitation, where available. Ask the official support route about the exact device, browser and assistive technology involved. A successful login or a working generic practice page does not establish that every feature of the assigned task is compatible.

Original message template: ask for the process

Subject: Assessment adjustment request — [assessment name]

Hello [recruiter or assessment team],

I have been invited to complete [assessment name], with a deadline of [date, time and time zone]. I would like to request an adjustment relating to [brief description of the access barrier or arrangement requested].

Could you confirm the process, any information you require and a secure way to provide it? Please also confirm whether the current deadline remains appropriate while the request is being considered.

Before I begin the affected task, I would appreciate confirmation of the approved arrangement, which assessment it applies to, whether it has been implemented and any setup instructions I should follow.

Thank you,
[your name]

Adapt the wording to your situation. The template is not sent by this page and is not an application for automatic approval. Keep the initial message focused; use the organisation’s requested secure channel for any supporting documents.

If the confirmed arrangement is not visible or a problem occurs

Before starting, contact the relevant team promptly if the displayed instructions conflict with your confirmation. If a technical problem occurs after starting, follow the assessment’s support instructions and report what happened, when and on which device. Do not assume that closing the browser pauses a timer or authorises a restart.

Describe the error without distributing confidential test questions. Record any support reference and ask the administering organisation what happens next. ReasoningCampus can explain preparation methods, but cannot change your live assessment settings or make the employer’s decision.

Check which follow-up questions remain

This checklist is for a candidate who needs an arrangement clarified. It does not collect a diagnosis, employer name, invitation link or documents. Tick only what you have actually confirmed.

Without JavaScript: review each statement in order. For any unconfirmed item, contact the appropriate route in the table above. Even if all five are checked, follow the actual assessment instructions; this checklist does not certify access, eligibility or readiness.

Answers and complete worked explanations

Open any question below to study the correct answer, the alternatives, the method and the common trap. These explanations are available without completing the quiz.

Question 1: Who approves extra time?

Correct answer: A. With the company requesting the assessment, through its recruiter or process

A identifies the organisation with authority to approve additional time: the company asking you to take the assessment, normally through your recruiter or its nominated contact. SHL’s candidate guidance directs requests there. Describe the practical barrier and ask what information and confirmation they require before you start the timed assessment.

B is a study tool, not an approving authority. C cannot authorise a change to your invitation. D exposes a request publicly without placing it into the organisation’s process. A useful request is specific enough to act on—assessment name, relevant deadline and the access issue—while sensitive supporting information should use the secure route the organisation specifies.

Question 2: Acknowledgement versus implementation

Correct answer: C. The request has been acknowledged; approval and implementation still need confirmation

C distinguishes receipt from approval. “We have received your request” confirms that the message arrived; it does not say what adjustment has been approved, which assessments it applies to, or whether it has been configured. Ask for those details before treating the arrangement as settled.

A assumes activation without confirmation. B extends an unconfirmed request to every test in the process. D changes the deadline even though the acknowledgement says nothing about it. Keep the acknowledgement, follow up through the stated contact, and check that the final instructions describe the arrangement you have actually been granted.

Question 3: Deadline responsibility

Correct answer: B. The company that asked you to complete the assessment

B is the relevant contact for a deadline query: the company requesting the assessment. It controls the recruitment timetable. If an adjustment request is still being considered near the deadline, explain the timing clearly and ask how you should proceed rather than making your own assumption about an extension.

A provides preparation, not control over the employer’s invitation. C is software and cannot authorise a new deadline. D, the writer of an explanatory article, has no authority over your application. Technical support may help investigate a platform problem, but a change to the recruitment deadline needs the organisation’s instruction.

Question 4: Platform feature versus assigned test

Correct answer: D. The platform offers those features; your specific assessment and setup still need confirmation

D is the practical conclusion. A platform’s general accessibility information is a starting point, but you still need to check the particular assessment, device, browser and approved arrangement you will use. A feature that works on an instruction page may behave differently in an interactive question, so use the available familiarisation and compatibility checks before the live session.

A assumes universal compatibility. B confuses access features with approved additional time. C removes the very check that could uncover a problem early. If something fails, report the specific behaviour and your setup through the appropriate support route; a reproducible description is more useful than a general statement that the test is inaccessible.

Question 5: Provide supporting information

Correct answer: C. Ask for and use the organisation’s secure submission route

C keeps supporting information within the organisation’s specified secure process. Ask which documents are needed, where they should be sent and who will handle them. You can explain the functional difficulty in an initial enquiry without putting sensitive records into an unrelated practice website or public forum.

A makes the information public. B shares it with another candidate who cannot approve the arrangement. D enters health information into a preparation tool that does not administer adjustments. The point is not to withhold relevant information from the proper process; it is to provide it to the right recipient through the route they have designated.

Question 6: What completing the checklist means

Correct answer: A. You have recorded those confirmations; follow the actual instructions and support process

A describes the checklist’s actual purpose: keep a record of requests, confirmations and setup checks, then follow the instructions from the organisation and assessment provider. A completed checklist can help you notice an unanswered question, such as whether extra time applies to all timed components, but it cannot itself grant anything.

B incorrectly assigns approval authority to ReasoningCampus. C promises that no technical issue can occur. D assumes every request must be accepted. Use the record to make follow-up specific: what was requested, what was confirmed, and what still needs clarification. That is more useful than treating a ticked box as an official decision.

ReasoningCampus SHL preparation: our role and your next step

Use ReasoningCampus lessons for the reasoning skills named in your invitation and organise your study around the confirmed instructions. The full preparation page describes the learning materials. Questions about eligibility, deadline changes or official assessment settings belong with the recruiter or assessment support route.

Choose your next practice step

  • The request has only been acknowledged. Ask for the decision, the assessment it covers and how implementation will be confirmed.
  • You have approval but the deadline is unclear. Confirm the deadline and time zone separately with the organisation that invited you.
  • The setup and instructions are confirmed. Use the study planner to schedule relevant learning and practise with permitted tools where appropriate.

SHL assessment adjustments: practical FAQs

Will asking for extra time automatically change my test?

No. SHL’s guidance says time extensions need approval from the requesting company. Confirm both approval and implementation for the exact assessment before assuming the settings have changed.

Does sending a request pause the deadline?

Do not assume so. Ask the organisation that invited you whether the deadline remains in place and obtain any revised deadline with its time zone.

Can ReasoningCampus approve an adjustment?

No. We provide preparation and practical guidance. The organisation administering the assessment handles approval and the applicable support process.

Do I need to upload medical evidence here?

No. This page does not request or store such evidence. If the recruiting organisation asks for supporting information, use its designated secure route.

What should I check if I use assistive technology?

Ask about your exact assessment, device, browser and assistive setup, and complete the supplied system or familiarisation checks where available. General platform support does not confirm every combination.

Does this advice guarantee a particular entitlement in every country?

No. This is a practical checklist based on SHL support information. It does not determine legal rights, eligibility, an appropriate adjustment or the outcome of a request.
