ReasoningCampus · SHL Candidate Guides
SHL assessment data requests can concern results, feedback, access or deletion, but those are not identical enquiries. Start with the organisation that invited you and the applicable privacy notice. Use the template below to make a clear request without posting confidential information publicly. ReasoningCampus provides this practical support lesson alongside its independent SHL preparation; the responsible organisation and applicable rules determine the response to a request.

View full preparationSHL assessment data requests: identify the responsible organisation
The ReasoningCampus approach is state the purpose, identify the assessment, ask precise questions. Keep a request narrow enough to answer and use the organisation’s designated contact route. Avoid including confidential test questions, unnecessary identification documents or another person’s information in an initial message.
Feedback, data access and deletion: three different requests
| Purpose | Example question | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Learning feedback | Is a candidate feedback report available? | That item-by-item answers will be disclosed |
| Understanding a result | What does the reported scale or band mean? | That a practice percentage predicts the band |
| Personal information | Where can I find information about processing and the appropriate request route? | That every organisation has the same role or procedure |

A feedback request template
Hello, I completed [assessment name] for [role/reference] on [date]. Could you confirm whether candidate feedback is available and explain the scale or comparison information provided with my result? I would also appreciate the appropriate contact or information page for questions about how my assessment data is handled. Please let me know if you need further information through a secure channel.
Use the role reference rather than copying a private invitation URL. Add only information needed to identify your application. If a separate privacy process exists, follow it rather than assuming a recruiter can answer every data-handling question.
A more specific set of information questions
- Which organisation should receive my question about this assessment record?
- What information about processing and retention applies to this application?
- Is a feedback report available, and what does it explain?
- What further information is needed to identify my record securely?
These questions do not assert a right to confidential item banks, source code, another candidate’s result or an unrestricted explanation of an algorithm. The scope of any legal rights depends on the applicable law and the circumstances.
What to do with the reply
Keep the original response and distinguish what it confirms from what it leaves unresolved. A feedback band may guide broad study priorities without explaining every wrong answer. If the reply directs you to a formal process, read that process carefully. For a legal dispute, use an appropriately qualified adviser or the relevant official information rather than relying on this preparation template.
Separate employer-held assessment data from direct SHL records
SHL’s Data About Me guidance directs requests concerning an employer-controlled assessment to the inviting organisation. It separately describes records for which SHL may act as controller, such as direct support, practice-site or marketing interactions. Identify which relationship your request concerns.
For a first message, specify the relevant assessment or interaction, approximate date and the type of request. Ask for the secure identification procedure rather than sending identification documents to an unverified address. A request for feedback is not automatically a right to receive confidential question content, other candidates’ data or proprietary scoring parameters.
Questions about request scope and contacts
Does GDPR automatically give me every test question and scoring formula?
This guide does not establish such a right. It supplies a neutral request template and leaves legal scope to the applicable rules and case facts.
Is the recruiter always the data controller?
Do not assume the roles. Ask for the applicable privacy information and the correct contact for your request.
Can I ask for feedback even if I do not know the legal terminology?
Yes. A clear ordinary-language question about available feedback is a useful starting point. A formal rights request may have additional requirements that need checking.
Sources and scope
The Data About Me page describes SHL’s contact route when an employer controls assessment data. Applicable rights, identity checks and response procedures depend on the relevant notice and circumstances; this is a practical contact guide, not legal advice.
Where to go next
Keep score interpretation, retake permission and login support separate from a data request, even if they arise in the same recruitment process.
