ReasoningCampus · SHL Candidate Guides
An SHL test retake requires clarification from the organisation running your recruitment process. A waiting period described by another candidate may not apply to you. Separate permission to repeat an assessment from the practice work you can begin using your own feedback. ReasoningCampus offers independent SHL preparation to help you review mistakes; retake permission remains a matter for the organiser.

View full preparationSHL test retake: separate permission from preparation
The ReasoningCampus review starts by separating the recruitment decision from the learning diagnosis. You may know that an application did not progress without knowing which part caused the decision. Practise the skills your own evidence identifies, and ask the organiser about retakes without assuming a low result means a permanent inability.
Retake permission and the waiting period: what to ask
| Question | Who can resolve it |
|---|---|
| Can I repeat this same assessment? | The organiser or recruiting team |
| Can I apply for another role? | The employer’s application process |
| Will a previous result be reused? | The relevant recruiting organisation |
| How long is my result retained? | The organisation’s applicable information and contact route |
| What should I practise? | Your feedback and a fresh diagnostic |
A statement such as “wait six months” can refer to one employer or one process. Do not turn it into a global SHL rule or assume it applies to every new application.

A concise message to the organiser
“Thank you for the update on my application for [role/reference]. Could you clarify whether a further assessment attempt is available, whether any waiting period applies, and whether an existing result would be reused for a different vacancy? If feedback is available, I would appreciate information that can help me prepare appropriately.”
This asks for information without demanding confidential items, another candidate’s results or an automatic exception. If a technical incident affected the session, describe that separately and factually through the support route.
Use feedback to plan your next practice session
If the feedback names a broad skill, try a small fresh diagnostic in that area. If you have only an overall outcome, avoid guessing that personality, speed or one difficult question was the cause. Record your practice errors by type: reading, rule, calculation, entry or time allocation. Select one repeated weakness and work through a full explanation before taking another mock.
Worked review after a numerical practice setback
Suppose your own practice shows three errors involving price changes and one involving a copied value. The first three might share a denominator issue; the fourth needs a reading check. A useful next session contains two reverse-percentage examples, two fresh growth examples and a careful table-reading task. Another unrestricted mock would mix those issues back into one number. Your study plan can be specific even when the employer’s selection process is not visible.
A technical reset is not the same as a second attempt after feedback
The SHL platform support guidance says that a completed test affected by technical problems cannot be reset by support without authorisation from the inviting organisation. A recruiter’s cooling-off period for repeat attempts is another question. Describe which situation applies rather than requesting a generic “reset”.
A useful record separates the assessment date, the incident if any, the feedback received and the action requested. The learning plan can proceed while the organiser clarifies the process, but a new login should not be used to circumvent that process.
Questions about SHL test retake
Is there a universal six- or twelve-month retake rule?
Check with the organiser for this assessment and application. A waiting period reported by another candidate may belong to a different employer, vacancy or recruitment campaign.
Does a rejected application prove I failed the test?
Not necessarily. The decision may involve other information. Use the wording of the feedback and ask for clarification if appropriate.
Should I open another account to retake?
Follow the authorised process. A new account is not a substitute for permission to repeat an assessment and may create problems with the application record.

The official support route below is the starting point for assessment enquiries. A recruiter must confirm retake permission for the application; the review plan here addresses what you can learn from your own practice.
Where to go next
Read the score report before choosing a learning target. Keep any data enquiry separate from permission to repeat the assessment.
